Dear Colleagues,

It is a great pleasure for me to invite you to the 13th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Adult Congenital Heart Disease held here in Fukuoka on January 8th and 9th of 2011. Participants in this year's meeting include cardiologists, pediatric cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, and other allied healthcare professionals. We hope that everyone will be able to access and share beneficial information concerning adults with congenital heart disease.

In Japan, the number of adults with CHD is on the increase. It is estimated that around 500,000 adults are surviving at present with CHD. Some of them suffer not only physically but also psychologically and there are recognizable social problems developing. In this 13th Annual Meeting of the JSACHD, we will have discussions focusing on two specific topics. The first topic deals with Fontan patients. While over the last couple of decades we have seen significant advancements in the management of Fontan patients, we still do not clearly understand issues dealing with long-term mobility and mortality in adult Fontan patients. The second topic deals with the ever-increasing necessity of using intra or inter-hospital networks and the imaging modalities which make this possible. Internet or intranet communication is now necessary to unite teams of medical providers participating in the care of adult patients with congenital heart disease.

We are looking forward to seeing you in Fukuoka, the nearest city to Asia.
